Skeletal Muscle Function

Skeletal muscles have three functions.  First, skeletal muscles, along with the bones and joints they work with, allow us to move.  Second, muscles allow us to maintain our positions.  For example, even if you are sitting down resting in a chair, your muscles are contracting in order to keep you from falling out of it.  Finally, muscle contractions allow us to maintain normal body temperature.  For example, when we are cold, our muscles contract to warm us up.  Sometimes we may even shiver as a means to get warmer.
