Heart Failure with Diastolic or Systolic Dysfunction

Coding Clinic, First Quarter 2017 Page 46 provided guidance for the scenario when heart failure is documented in association with either diastolic or systolic dysfunction.  If the provider links the heart failure to the specific form of dysfunction, assign the appropriate code from category I50.2 Systolic (congestive) heart failure or I50.3 Diastolic (congestive) heart failure.
